Mexico Oaxaca District serves communities through medical services, children's ministries

The Mexico Oaxaca District Nazarene Compassionate Ministries team gathered 20 medical volunteers 22-26 April to serve several communities in the Ixtepec, Oaxaca, mountain range.

A team of health professionals and children’s ministry volunteers worked alongside local churches in the La Cumbre, Guevea de Humboldt, Santa María Guienagati, and La Chivizá communities. They offered medical checks, glucose checks, dental consultations, haircuts, and childcare.

This is the first time the Oaxaca District has offered a medical clinic like this, and District Superintendent Nicolás Guzmán served alongside the volunteers.

“We believe that bodily health is important, but we believe that spiritual health is even more important,” said Néstor López, district NCM coordinator. “That is why we were very intentional in evangelism, not just with adults but also with children.”

During the event, 50 people gave their lives to the Lord, four returned to faith, and the children’s ministry volunteers taught the children about God through different stations and fun activities.

“We were able to minister to many children, and seeing their surprised faces [when we used a mirror] to show them a special person created by God really filled our hearts,” Lopez said. “We are so grateful to God for the positive experiences we had with the churches and with every person we met.”
