Paraguay declared a state of emergency after more than 40,000 people were displaced 9 May when torrential rain led to severe flooding. At least six people and nearly 450,000 farm animals were killed.

Several Nazarene churches in the area were affected, including both the Isla Umbú Church of the Nazarene and the Desmochado Church of the Nazarene.

“It was a matter of seconds before the water had reached our knees,” said Carlos Paredes, pastor of San Roque Church of the Nazarene. 

Several pastors’ homes were affected by the flood, one member of the San Roque church lost everything, and 30 other Nazarene families lost property.
 
Missionary Yoan Camacaro and District Superintendent Pablo Tello are in charge of the relief efforts. The local church is working to support those who were affected, and Nazarene Compassionate Ministries in Paraguay provided donated items for the victims 11 May. 

Another project has begun called “Ko’e rory” which in the Guarani language means “Happy Dawn.” This program will provide food kits, personal hygiene items, and blankets for the victims who must prepare for the coming winter in Paraguay.

Prayer is requested for flood victims.
