Shechem Children’s Home, an assessment center aiding the survivors of online sexual abuse and exploitation of children, is currently undergoing significant renovation aimed at expanding its capacity and improving its facilities.

Operated by the Church of the Nazarene and Nazarene Compassionate Ministries in the Philippines, Shechem serves as a soft landing for abused children immediately after rescue, providing a safe and nurturing environment where they can begin their journey toward healing and recovery.

The renovation project, supported by generous partners and donors, is expected to increase the center’s bed capacity and add vital new spaces to enhance the quality of care provided. Plans include the construction of a clinic for medical check-ups, a sensory room designed to help children process trauma in a controlled environment, and more spacious living areas to foster a sense of comfort and security. Additional improvements include an upgraded kitchen and expanded bathroom facilities, ensuring every child’s basic needs are met with dignity and care.

At Shechem, children undergo comprehensive psychological and physical assessments immediately after being rescued. This holistic approach is critical for identifying each child’s needs and tailoring individualized care plans. Alongside these assessments, Shechem offers psychosocial therapy and trauma-informed care activities designed to build resilience and facilitate recovery. Adding new facilities will enable the center to deliver these essential services more effectively and to a more significant number of children.

Part of the church’s mission is to embody compassion. By expanding its capacity and facilities, Shechem will be able to provide more children with a haven where they can receive the care and support they need to overcome trauma and move toward a brighter future.
