Nazarene Missions International recently added an interactive Facebook option for their long-running Prayer Mobilization Line.

"Facebook is where people meet online today," said Ann Baldwin, PML coordinator. "We couldn't think of a better way to provide the church with the latest prayer needs and a way to celebrate God's answers to those needs than on a PML Facebook page.

"I've long dreamed of providing a place where, for example, a person in England could go online and post a request, and where someone in South Africa could not only read their request and pray, but also post a comment letting the person know they were prayed for. I believe the church connecting in prayer this way is an encouragement to all who participate."

PML was first introduced in 1981 to serve as a link between missionaries on the field and the local church intercessors. Initially, the "Prayer Line" was simply a phone number people called. Then, Baldwin said, they jotted down prayer requests recorded by the NMI team. With the advance of technology, PML evolved to a twice-weekly email that now goes to more than 12,000 people and is posted on the NMI and Engage Magazines websites.

"I join our entire global NMI leadership team in praying and believing that the expansion of PML to Facebook and other creative networks will facilitate more intercession for mission critical needs," said Daniel Ketchum, NMI director. "To partner in prayer for such a time as this is the most significant way all of us to extend Christ's Kingdom around the world. I thank God for every PML mobilizer and intercessor."

The PML Facebook page offers anyone, at any time, from anywhere, the opportunity to post and read requests.

"We hope church members will find the page, pray for the requests, post their own needs, and let others know they are praying for them," Baldwin said. "The page will also provide a way to inform the church of urgent needs that occur often between the days of PML's normal Tuesday and Friday distribution."
