Guyana volunteers reach communities, assist churches

Guyana volunteers reach communities, assist churches

by | 28 Aug 2018

A team of 16 people from the Guyana Demerara-Essequibo District led by Nazarene Missions International District President Augustus Andrews and District Superintendent R. Alphonso Porter traveled 11-17 August to Linden, Guyana, for a missions trip.

The group began their trip by worshipping with four local churches on Sunday morning and attended evening services at three of them. Many current church members renewed their commitment to the Lord during the worship services, and several new Christians gave their lives to Christ.

The team then volunteered at the Wismar and Christianburg Vacation Bible School camps, which served about 100 children. Between the two camps, 18 children gave their lives to the Lord. In the evening services, 37 people renewed their commitment to the Lord and 18 people accepted Christ as their Savior for the first time.

The volunteers also made house visits to community members in Christianburg, praying for them and inviting them to the church services. In Wismar, volunteers distributed food baskets to more than 40 houses, painted the church fence, and refinished the church floors.

"The team was well received, and their hard work was well appreciated by the churches in the Linden area,” Andrews said. “They are truly grateful to God for moving miraculously as they prepared to be used by Him.”
