Grace & Peace magazine receives 4 Evangelical Press Association awards

by | 24 Apr 2019

Staff members from two Church of the Nazarene publications, Grace & Peace and Holiness Today magazines, attended the Evangelical Press Association’s annual convention 7-9 April in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The event gathers more than 300 Christian publications and sponsors for workshops, plenary speakers, and networking from all over the world.

Grace & Peace magazine was awarded third place for its Interview Article End of Life Care as Discipleship: An Interview with John Swinton, third place for its Editorial Article Trying on New Lenses, fourth place for its Evangelism Article Four Practices that Characterize Wesleyan Evangelism, and fifth place for its Two-Page Spread Design The Minister as a Lifelong Learner

Both magazines received positive feedback from adjudicators, who represent publishers from a wide array of evangelical publications.

“This is a good Q&A because the interviewer asks the questions and then gets out of the way,” one judge said regarding End of Life Care as Discipleship. “There are no interruptions to insert a personal opinion. This is the way an interview ought to be done.”

Trying on New Lenses received notable praise from one judge.

“[This is a] tough topic,” the judge said. “Believers may dismiss anything that doesn’t support the leadership, but this piece examines a topic that is important today and tomorrow. It is well written and it helps the church think about the disparity among rich and poor and the various ethnic groups who exist in the United States. Racism is shameful, and the Church has been slow to recognize the problem.”

This is the first year that Grace & Peace has entered the EPA competition. Last year, Holiness Today received an award for its issue commemorating the 500th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation.

Staff from both magazines participated in workshops and plenary sessions to help enhance future editions.

Staff participants included Grace & Peace and Holiness Today Managing Editor Charles Christian, Holiness Today Assistant Editor Jordan Eigsti, Grace & Peace Associate Editor Jeanette Littleton, and Grace & Peace Assistant Editor Rebecca Rodeheaver.
