A General Board appointed task force seeks input from church leadership worldwide as it evaluates the future roles of several ministries at the Global Ministry Center.

Anyone who works with or is interested in the ministries of Nazarene Missions International (NMI), Nazarene Youth International (NYI), or Sunday School and Discipleship Ministries International (SDMI) is invited to take part in an online survey.

The task force is part of a larger operational plan to help the General Board find ways to help the Global Ministry Center be more effective.

The basic survey shouldn't take more than 10 minutes.

For those who can spare more time, the survey allows additional write-in responses. The committee looks forward to those written insights as well, said Dwight Gunter, pastor of Nashville Trevecca Community Church of the Nazarene and chair of the task force.

The task force is charged with reporting back to the GMC this fall, so tabulations will begin in mid-June. Later responses will still be reviewed, but only those received by June 17 will be included in the official reports.

Also during the 2011 General Board meetings in Louisville, Kentucky, the Board of General Superintendents addressed the financial situation at the GMC and the Global Mission regional offices and proposed a three-phase work plan to the General Board.

The plan, which took effect immediately, received unanimous approval in an executive session.

Phase one of the plan deals directly with the anticipated WEF shortfall for fiscal year 2011. The goal of successfully dealing with this situation at the GMC has been met with the shortfall being covered through internal financial sources and the WEF PLUS offering. Phase two is a U.S.$3.0 million reduction in the WEF operational budget base for fiscal year 2012, which begins October 1, 2011. Phase three is a more strategic piece, which involves rethinking the GMC and regional offices. The task force is part of this phase.

The members of this task force, representing various segments of the global church, are:

  • Rebeca Alvarado-Ortiz (Mesoamerica Region)
  • David A. Busic (South Central Region/USA)
  • D. Ian Fitzpatrick (Canada Region)
  • Shionel Blas Azura Gesite (Asia-Pacific Region)
  • Dwight M. Gunter II, Chair (Southeast Region/USA)
  • Daniel J. Martin (East Central Region/USA)
  • Daniel Spaite (Southwest Region/USA)
  • Paul D. Tarrant (Eurasia Region)
  • J. K. Warrick, Chair of Board of General Superintendents
  • Kerry W. Willis (Eastern Region/USA)
